TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Substitute Teaching: Long-Term Substitute
Lake Elementary School, Hartville, Ohio March 2014 – End of School Year
Taught two classes of fifth-graders language arts and social studies, with 28 students in each class. Twenty-five students were identified as gifted and talented. The classes also consisted of students who possessed 504 plans, students who received title tutoring, and students with special needs. Emphasis was placed on preparation for Ohio Achievement Assessment in language arts, including fiction and non-fiction selections. Utilized common assessments and teacher-provided guidelines to create lessons and differentiate instruction that molded to Common Core State Standards and Ohio State Standards for social studies, based on individual student needs and available technology. Developed and adjusted instructional practices based on assessment data. Communicated with parents, implemented regulations within IEPs, and collaborated with content-specific teachers, the title reading teacher, the gifted intervention specialist, as well as the team-teacher. Provided supervision for both lunch and recess.
Student Teaching:
Lake Elementary School, Hartville, Ohio Fall 2013
Taught two classes of fourth-graders language arts and social studies, with 29 students in each class. Taught both concentrations simultaneously for the last half of the placement. Employed preassessments to gauge learning and create lessons that both supported and challenged students by targeting areas that required the most intense instruction. Created materials and instruction by employing the Backward Design method and then assessed student work based on prior rubrics. Utilized a variety of direct and indirect instruction, as well as cooperative learning and hands-on activities. Developed new assessments for students scoring lower than 80 percent on all assessments after establishing and resolving misconceptions. Worked alongside classroom aids, the intervention specialist, and team teachers in order to design instruction that best suited students with special needs. Differentiated instruction, materials, and assessments for 14 moderate to severe students with special needs and six title students at various learning levels. Created instruction, materials, and assessments for students on alternative assessment program by analyzing new extended standards and implementing them into direct, whole-class instruction. Integrated instruction by merging ideas and concepts, as well as technology into lessons, thus promoting interdisciplinary skills. Promoted critical literacy skills by analyzing selections and engaging students in thoughtful discussion. Collaborated with concentration-specific teachers and intervention specialist to construct lessons and materials in preparation for common assessments. Provided supervision as lunch room and recess attendant and participated in student-led, parent-teacher conferences.
